GEORGE: ‘I FELT PICKED ON BY GOD’

-

ADOCUMENTARY pop star GEORGE MICHAEL was working on just 48 hours before his death aged 53 last year has revealed several haunting new revelations. Speaking at the start of the Channel 4 doccie, called Freedom, the late singer says, “This is the story of just how fame and tragedy intervened.”

George’s musical and personal journey is documented, starting with his rise to fame in the pop supergroup Wham! to his embattled love-life and struggle with fame.

In a poignant insight into his inner psyche, he reveals how he felt picked on by God after his first love, Brazilian designer ANSELMO FELEPPA (whom he met when he was 27 and who he says helped him come to terms with his sexuality) was diagnosed with Aids and his mother, LESLEY ANGOLD, with cancer.

“I felt so bloody picked on by God. I took it very badly indeed. I’ve never felt that kind of depression.” Both went on to die within five years of each other and he calls that period, “the darkest, most frightening time in my life”.

In another heart-wrenching clip, he tells the camera, “I think it’s all been a waste of time, a waste of effort. I hope people think of me as someone who had some kind of integrity. I hope I’m remembered for that, very unlikely.”

He also reveals his battle with fame, calling music “a controlling lover”. “I had a desperate ambition as a child, to be famous. But if I was looking for happiness, that was the wrong road.”

Boyfriend of three years Fadi Fawaz (44), who found George’s body on Christmas Day, has been left out of the film. Famous faces that appear include model Kate Moss, singers Elton John and Stevie Wonder, and talk-show host James Corden. SOURCE: DAILYMAIL.CO.UK
