WHO IS JASON ROHDE?

Jason was born in England and lived in South Africa with his mother from the age of four. He matriculated at King Edward high school in Johannesburg. After school he started studying for a B Com degree but in 1991 abandoned his studies to take a job as a clerk at an insurance company.

According to his statement submitted to court, he married Susan in 1993. In 1994 they moved to Perth, Australia, where he worked as an estate agency consultant. Two years later they moved back to South Africa. For about two years he worked at a travel agency, then as manager at an estate agency.

Later he started a property business with his mother which was bought by Sotheby’s International Realty. In 2010 he was appointed executive head of Sotheby’s South Africa

According to his statement, Jason and his family had lived in their luxury home in Bryanston since 2012. The couple put the house up for sale last year.

Soon after his arrest – he was charged with murder and defeating the ends of justice – Jason had to stay for a while with his sister, Tori, and her husband, who live near Melkbosstrand outside Cape Town, before being allowed to return to Johannesburg.

His mom, Brenda, took care of his daughters during that time. His eldest daughter is a student and her twin siblings attend boarding school in a different province.

After his arrest Jason was dismissed from Sotheby’s and so far his family has declined to comment on the charges he faces.
