The light-hearted caper, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as lifeguard captain Mitch Buchannon, doesn’t stray too far from the original – it’s like the TV show on steroids.

After drugs wash up on the beach close to a nightclub run by businesswoman and smooth criminal Victoria Leeds (Priyanka Chopra), Mitch ropes in his crew to help him investigate. Despite the danger, his new recruits – surfer Summer (Alexandra Daddario), nerd Ronnie (Jon Bass) and Matt Brody (Zac Efron), an Olympic gold medallist swimmer who’s fallen from grace – want in on the action too. But Mitch and Matt’s love-hate relationship could jeopardise everything if they don’t learn to trust each other.
