ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL

-

Among the marine life filmed for the first time are snub-fin dolphins which spit water through the air to deceive their prey, a tool-using tusk fish, and the Hoff crab, named after Baywatch hunk David Hasselhoff.

There’s even a fish that hates water. The bizarre Pacific leaping blenny spends all its adult life on land. It’s about 7cm long and looks like a nondescript stone – until a wave rolls in and all the blennies jump in the opposite direction to avoid the water.

One heartrending scene shows a brutal attack by a group of killer whales on one of their babies.

Meanwhile, over in the Seychelles, the predator giant trevally is filmed leaping into the air to grab terns on the wing.

Other fascinating creatures featured include hypnotic cuttlefish, marlins, sperm whales and sea birds.

Thanks to new camera technology the crew were able to film predators head-on, and even “travel” on the backs of whales, sharks and orcas.
