Here’s how to find out if your info was compromised in the recent data breach

-

THE recent major data breach that affected millions of South Africans’ accounts is the stuff of nightmares. Short of keeping an eye on your social media accounts and outboxes for dodgy posts or emails, and watching your bank notifications like a hawk, how are you supposed to figure out if you’ve been hacked?

This is where Have I Been Pwned (HIBP) comes in. Just type in your email address(es) on the website (haveibeenpwned.com) to see if your accounts have been compromised.

The site will provide details of where the breach took place and what details were leaked, so you can change passwords on that service or delete your profile altogether.

A bonus is the email alert function – you can subscribe to have HIBP alert you via email if your account details have been compromised. Mercifully, there’s no need to create an account or provide personal details when you subscribe.
