Why Jen & Justin split
She’s a squeaky clean golden girl, he’s a bohemian hipster – small wonder their marriage didn’t last
THEY were an odd pairing from the start – he with his tattoos and brooding intensity, she a Hollywood darling with a milliondollar smile to match her golden yoga-toned limbs. Yet Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux fell in love and had the fairytale wedding. Fans hoped for a “happily ever after” for unlucky-in-love Jen.
Alas, it wasn’t to be. After two-and-ahalf years of marriage it’s all over – barely a month after their annual holiday in Mexico with their actor friend Jason Bateman and his wife, Amanda Anka.
It turns out the trip was of the makeor-break kind, with Amanda playing mediator to try to save their marriage.
Soon afterwards reports surfaced of Justin (46) behaving “like a single man” at a post-Grammys party. And in the week leading up to the split announcement Jen attended two big bashes in Los Angeles solo – the 60th birthday party of talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres and the wedding of actress pal Amy Schumer.
Jen also rang in her 49th birthday without her hubby, surrounded instead by a posse of gal pals that included Courteney Cox, her Friends co-star and BFF.
Their last encounter was on Valentine’s Day in LA. “Justin flew in to see Jen one last time,” a source says. “They decided they’d make the statement the next day.”
Jen apparently dragged her heels about going public with the news but Justin wanted to make the announcement so he can live his life, the insider says.
Their statement was bland, describing themselves as best friends who’ve decided to part ways as a couple but who look forward to continuing their friendship.
Architectural Digest magazine had just published a feature on their dream home in Bel Air, Los Angeles, in which Jen gushes, “I look around at my husband, my dogs and our home and there’s nowhere else I want to be.” Poignant words now.
