UGLY TRUTH ABOUT THE MET GALA

-

THEIR glamorous gowns and broad smiles makes it easy to think celebs are having the time of their lives at the Met Gala. But according to recent reports the annual event, which is hosted by New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art along with Vogue magazine, is “super-unfriendly” and “not an enjoyable evening”.

“It’s very dog-eat-dog. People won’t move out of the way [on the carpet] for the next person,” a source told US news website Page Six. Another source claims Vogue’s editor-in-chief, ANNA WINTOUR, who hosts the event, bans those she dislikes and instils a pecking order everywhere from the red carpet to the seating chart.

A slew of celebs – among them GWYNETH PALTROW, AMY SCHUMER and LENA DUNHAM – have turned on the ball, dishing on how tiresome it’s become. Gwyneth’s self-imposed ban lasted four years before she returned in 2017, although both Amy and Lena returned to the gala the very next year.

“It’s to stay relevant and stay in the good graces of Anna Wintour,” a Hollywood handler claims. “She can make or break you. To be honest, I’m surprised she even let them back in.”

Since Anna’s taken over, clothing retailers such as H&M have bought tables and dressed celebrities for the event and some claim this gives the affair a contrived feel.

“It used to be a really fun event,” said a fashion insider. “But people say it’s just become a corporate pressure cooker.”

Another insider described the event as “very high school” and “elitist”.

“There are plenty of people who have enough money for the Met Ball, but if [Anna] doesn’t deem you worthy, you’re not coming.”
