SHE’S the classy British beauty who initially stood by her husband as the sexabuse storm first exploded over his head. As far as she was concerned she had it all: a successful career, two lovely kids and a happy marriage.
But, as the saying goes, the wife is often the last to know – and if Georgina Chapman is to be believed, she was in the dark when it came to Harvey Weinstein’s alleged 40-year sex-pest fest.
Yet the 42-year-old fashion designer is now admitting “there was a part of me that was terribly naive”.
And as woman after woman came forward with sordid tales of manipulation, coercion, assault and rape, she realised she’d been duped.
Five days after pledging her support for Weinstein (66), she announced she was leaving him – and now, six months later, Georgina has finally broken her silence. In an emotional interview with Vogue magazine she says the events that saw her husband go from powerhouse to pariah left her “humiliated and broken”.
“I didn’t think it was respectful to go out,” she tells the iconic fashion glossy. “I thought, ‘ Who am I to be parading around with all of this going on?’
“It’s still so very, very raw. I was walking up the stairs the other day and I stopped – it was like all the air had been punched out of my lungs.”
She says she never suspected anything was amiss when it came to Weinstein, with whom she has a daughter, India (7), and a son, Dashiell (5).
“For one thing he travelled constantly and I’ve never been one of those people who obsess about where someone is. That’s what makes this so incredibly painful: I had what I thought was a very happy marriage. I loved my life.”
She concedes she has moments of “rage, confusion and disbelief. And I have moments when I just cry for my children. What are their lives going to be? What are people going to say to them? They
