Meghan’s magical day

-

Thank you so much for the supplement on Meghan and Harry’s wedding (YOU, 31 May). The pictures are beautiful, just as the wedding itself!

I just don’t understand what all the fuss is about regarding Meghan’s racial background. She was a beautiful bride and if I hadn’t known that her mom is African-American, I’d have thought she was from some southern European country.

But why does it matter? None of us has any influence over which colour skin we’re born with. It’s implied that the royal family being white may have had to make some sort of adjustments to have somebody of mixed race in their family. I don’t believe that. They’ve mixed with people of all races for a long time and don’t strike me as racist.

I’m sure they’re just happy Harry has found a life partner who’ll support him in whatever he has to do.

As for Meghan’s mom, Doria, sitting by herself, she’s a grown woman who could’ve chosen somebody dear to her to keep her company. Yes, she was emotional, but most mothers of brides usually are when they see their “little girl” getting married.

As for her father, whatever reason he had for cancelling at the last moment is between him and his daughter. It probably worked out for the best – he might have felt awkward walking his daughter down the aisle with the whole world watching his every move. JUTTA DONALDSON, EMAIL I felt so sorry for Megan’s mother, Doria, at the wedding. She looked so lonely, sad and out of place that if I could I would’ve given her a hug.

I would’ve thought Megan and Harry, who are both caring people, would’ve made sure she was more included. My heart went out to her. Had it been my mom I would’ve made sure she was also involved from the beginning. SUE GLAISTER, EMAIL Meghan may not be the first royal member of colour. King George III married Princess Charlotte of Meclenburg-Strelitz. She was British Queen Consort, Queen of England and Ireland 1761-1801, when she became Queen of Great Britain and Ireland until her death in 1818.

Charlotte was descended directly from the African branch of the Portuguese Royal House, Margarita De Castro y Sousa. SUSAN PEEBLES, EMAIL

I loved Harry and Meghan’s wedding. It was such a happy and joyful ceremony. The singing was awesome. Thanks to YOU for the beautiful keepsake. You did a great job. SOPHIA, BRACKENFELL
