WHY ARE MY PARENTS SO DIFFICULT?

-

I’m a student in my third year and I wanted to give up my studies and start working as I feel studying is just a waste of time.

I thought my parents would be happy about this because then I’d be off their hands financially, but they said they expected me to complete my studies and that it was the least I could do seeing that they’ve paid for it.

A friend of mine started working recently and he’s earning a good salary so I don’t see how a degree would make my future better. Liam, email To finish what you start is a good principle to live by. Being able to stay the course says a lot about a person’s perseverance, commitment and tenacity.

Having a degree may not count so much when you’re just starting out in a career but believe me it counts when you want to move to middle management in a company.

Having parents who are willing and able to pay for your studies is a privilege many young people in South Africa don’t have and you shouldn’t take this for granted.

The pleasure of having money in your pocket now because you get a job will pale against the pleasure of being able to get a promotion because of hard work with a degree to back you up.

Think also of the pleasure you’ll give your parents when they see you getting your degree – it’ll come from the knowledge that they’ve given you a good foundation in life and this isn’t something to be taken lightly.
