Mac Miller DEAD at 26!
NEWS of MAC MILLER’s death shook fans earlier this month. The rapper – who released his critically acclaimed fifth album, Swimming, just a few weeks ago – was found unresponsive at his Los Angeles home by emergency workers who pronounced him dead at the scene.
Although medical staff handling the case didn’t give details on the cause of death, rumours swirled across social media that the artist had died of a drug overdose.
Mac – real name Malcolm James McCormick – had been open about his problems with substance abuse. The Pittsburgh native addressed both his drug use and his fragile emotional state on his most recent album, and his legion of fans believed things were looking up for him.
In an interview published just days before his death he told Vulture magazine he was trying to tame his negative emotions. “I don’t want to be depressed. I want to be able to have good days and bad days.”
His death prompted an outpouring of grief from fellow musicians including Elton John – who dedicated a performance of Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me to him when he recently performed in Mac’s native Pennsylvania – and artists Chance The Rapper, John Mayer and G-Eazy, who took to social media to express their sadness. “Please tell your friends and the people you care about you love them life is so f**king fragile,” G-Eazy wrote alongside a picture of him and Mac sharing a joke.
