The royal goldfish bowl

-

Princes Harry and William are two different people, both with wives and families (YOU, 7 November). It would be foolish to expect everyone to get on and agree on child-rearing and family life. They have different goals and family dynamics.

It might be true that William cautioned his brother about his choice of wife but if Harry loves Meghan why should that matter? The consequences were clear with Charles and Diana. Him not being in love with her and marrying for the sake of the family – it usually ends badly.

It’s been refreshing and delightful to see Harry and Meghan holding hands in many of the photos we’ve seen. They’re warm and sincere in their dealings with people of all walks of life. They’re now parents, so both their wishes and parenting attitudes need to be considered.

It would be unreasonable to expect Meghan to abandon all her hopes and dreams for family life because she’s married to Harry. It needs compromise on both sides, as in any marriage. ANNE OLVER, CAPE TOWN

I wish the constant Harry-andMeghan bashing by so-called “royal experts” would stop. What qualifies them to be experts anyway? It’s sheer arrogance to dictate how members of the monarchy should think and behave!

Give Meghan and Harry breathing space, and respect their decisions about what’s best for them.

And kudos to Meghan for being so gracious and to Harry for his steadfast resolve to protect his family in the face of a relentless negative media assault. “Royal experts”, please stop and think for a second how you’d cope if you lived in their goldfish bowl. DEBBY, CAPE TOWN
