CZECH REPUBLIC ANGER OVER CLOCK RENOVATION

People are angry because an artist who renovated an antique clock in Prague changed some of the artwork on it. The Prague Astronomical Clock or Prague Orloj is 600 years old and a famous landmark and tourist attraction in the Czech capital. It was reopened to the public in 2018 following expensive repairs and renovations.

But a heritage group is now accusing the artist who did the renovations of making changes to the artwork on the clock, including that some of the faces of the people in the paintings now look different to the original paintings it was based on. The Czech cultural ministry has launched an investigation into the matter.

RUSSIA NEW FAST FOOD CHAIN REPLACES MCDONALD’S

A total of 15 new fast food restaurants have opened in Russia in the locations where there used to be McDonald’s.

In May, McDonald’s announced it was withdrawing from Russia because of the country’s invasion of neighbouring Ukraine. Those locations have now been taken over by a new company that hopes to soon replace all 850 former

McDonald’s locations.

The new chain is called Vkusno & Tochka, which means “tasty and that’s it” in Russian. The new company says it has retained all 62 000 former McDonald’s employees.

JAPAN NEW DINOSAUR SPECIES DISCOVERED

Scientists have discovered a dinosaur species which lived in the Cretaceous period (about 145 million to 66 million years ago). They’ve named the species Paralitherizinosaurus japonicus. The first part of the name, the family name, means “reptiles by or near the sea” in Greek and Latin.

The second part of the name refers to Japan, where the dinosaur lived.

It was a plant-eating dinosaur and had very sharp claws on its feet, presumably used to scratch the soil in search of food.
