This comedy drama is simultaneously hilarious and horrifying, lyrical and absurd, ordinary and apocalyptic.
White Noise is about a contemporary American family, struggling with life’s day-to-day dramas and conflicts, who suddenly have to try to survive after toxic gases are released into the air when a train crashes. Adam Driver plays the father, Jack; Greta Gerwig is the mother, Babette; and Don Cheadle makes an appearance as the character Murray.

IT’S A FAMOUS BOOK
Oscar-nominated director Noah Baumbach was a fan of Don DeLillo’s 1985 book of the same name, which won the American National Book Award for fiction and is considered a modern classic.
“I read Don DeLillo’s novel in the late 1980s at university. It perfectly captured the absurdity, horror and insanity of America at that time. I read it again in the early months of 2020 and it felt like that again,” says Noah.

REAL-LIFE COUPLE
Noah and Greta have been married since 2011 and Greta was part of the creative process when Noah decided to adapt it. “When the pandemic hit New York, Greta and I were here. I was finishing the book and it felt like this book was telling me things about what’s happening in today’s world.”
Greta and Noah are also the writers and producers of the upcoming Barbie movie with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken.

HIDDEN COLLAB
This is not their first rodeo.
White Noise is the fifth project where Noah has worked with Star Wars star Adam Driver.
The actor also had the lead role in Noah’s 2019 movie, Marriage Story.
“I like to have actors in mind when I write,” says Noah.
“It’s like having a hidden collaborator.”
Maybe that’s the reason his work always packs such a punch.
