TREND 3 SUPER BLUSH
Trendy blush is going nowhere. In fact, this season you need to step up your blush game even more. Think bold, exaggerated ’80s-style blush placed over the high points of your cheekbones, on eyelids and brow bones. Or why not take notes from the exaggerated artistry of Chinese opera makeup and layer on blushes and berry tones to create a prismatic theatrical look?

Prep your skin with hydrating skincare, foundation and concealer.
Using a blusher brush, apply your blusher with a heavy hand to the apples of your cheeks. If you prefer a cream blush, use your fingertips to apply the product and layer it on until you achieve your desired depth of colour.
Blend the powder or cream blush past the apples of your cheeks upwards towards your temples and downwards onto the lower cheek area. Use your brush or fingertips to soften the edges as needed.
Extend the blush up onto your eyelids, or use it to add some monochrome colour to your lips by applying it underneath a clear lip gloss.
TREND 4 UNDERPAINTING
Harsh contours and heavy highlights are so last season! This spring, expect a more subtle take on contouring with a technique called underpainting. Made popular by Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner’s go-to makeup artist, Mary Phillips, this trend entails applying your face makeup (contour, blush and concealer) first, underneath a lightweight foundation. The result? A seamless, sculpted summer glow without looking like you’re wearing a ton of makeup.

Start off with well-prepped skin. Layering a hydrating serum with moisturiser followed by a primer is the perfect way to simultaneously nurture your skin and create a smooth base for layering cream products.
Apply a cream concealer under the eyes and over blemishes.
Using a cream bronzer, apply contour to all the usual spots: below cheekbones, jawline, temples, around your hairline and nose (if you choose).
Next, apply brightening concealer (a shade or two lighter than your skin tone) to the tops of your cheekbones, nose and top of your brow bones.
For a subtle flush, dab a cream blush to the apples of your cheeks and upwards towards your temples.
Lastly, gently apply a lightweight foundation using a
stippling brush.
