AN EVENING OF THRILLS

-

FROM cocktail dresses to suits and ties, the crowd at the series premiere of Devil’s Peak showed up and showed off. The launch was hosted at the Nasdak rooftop venue in Cape Town – starting outdoors with a mingle session with Table Mountain as a spectacular backdrop, then moving inside for the preview.

Celebrities in attendance included actor Theodore Jantjies, MARC BUCKNER from The Bachelor SA season 2 and Idols SA season 13 winner PAXTON FIELIES.

The screenings of episodes one and two were introduced by the evening’s host, actor NICO PANAGIO. The first episode was met with oohs and aahs and guests were left with a cliffhanger after episode two.

The crime thriller, which starts on M-Net on Sunday 29 October, was adapted for the screen from the 2004 novel Devil’s Peak by renowned SA author Deon Meyer.

The TV series will take over M-Net’s 8pm Sunday-movie slot for its run of five weeks.

The series follows talented-yet-tormented detective Benny Griessel, played by HILTON PELSER, as he tracks down a vigilante serial killer, Thobela Mpayipheli, played by SISANDA HENNA.

Thobela commits heinous crimes to avenge the death of his son who is killed at the start of the show.

Halfway through the series, viewers are introduced to single mother Christine van Rooyen, played by TARRYN WYNGAARD, who’s willing to do anything for a better life for her and her daughter.

The series follows these three characters’ fates as an investigative thriller unfolds that will have you on the edge of your seat.

It was filmed in various locations in the Mother City and features other local stars such as SOLI PHILANDER, Masasa Mbangeni and SHAMILLA MILLER.

“This is a story that could only have played out in South Africa, where the dark underworld of crime pierces the bubble in which those who can, seek security and comfort,” says Waldimar Pelser, M-Net’s director for premium channels.

“Devil’s Peak shows the extraordinarily beautiful city of Cape Town with and without its mask. It’s the tale of iconic detective Griessel’s struggle against external and internal demons to find justice for others and redemption for himself.”
