IN PRAISE OF PARENTS

-

▪ This is a dedication to all parents. In this life there are evil parents, however the majority have brought their children into this world with a love beyond measure.

It’s a natural instinct for a parent to care for, nurture and provide for a child. The time and sacrifices put into raising a child, only a parent knows.

So how unnatural is it when that very same child grows up only to disregard, disrespect and ill-treat their parents.

Mothers and fathers ought to symbolise the very light in our lives and we should hold them in the highest regard irrespective of their personal issues.

Don’t ignore your parents. Take time to communicate your gratitude. Our greatest earthly blessing is our parents, who will be oblivious if you give them a grand funeral or buy the most beautiful flowers on their death. Let’s love and honour our parents today.

R REDDY, BENONI ▪ If there was a competition for the best stepfather in the world, I’d enter my own stepdad and probably win.

My biological father died in a car accident when I was three months old. My mother met my stepfather when I was still a toddler. The fatherly love and care I received from my stepfather strengthened our bond.

My mom and stepdad had two kids together and they only broke the news of me being a stepchild when I turned six. It took me some time to come to terms with the news, but my stepfather never made me feel unwanted. He never discriminated against me.

My stepfather is my hero. He guided me on how to become a real gentleman. He supported me throughout my school years until I graduated and found a job. Every time I read a story about stepfathers who discriminate against and abuse their stepchildren, I’m reminded how special my stepfather is.

I can’t thank him enough. Thank you, Daddy.
