ALL THE LONELY PEOPLE

-

A while ago, when my family and I passed a home for the aged, I noticed a woman’s face at a window, her grey hair neatly styled, her eyes a blank stare.

I couldn’t get her face out of my mind, so I contacted the home. They explained that this elderly woman gets dressed and has her hair done, and every Sunday she watches out the window for her family to fetch her. Sadly, they never come.

I contacted her daughter, who told me she has so much to do as she belongs to various organisations. Her children were busy too, with sports and other activities, so there was just no time to visit her mom.

When I told her what I had found out, she said she would see what she could do. But to date, no one has been to visit this woman, so I arranged for a friend of hers to fetch her and take her out. I believe they spent a weekend away.

So many old people wait alone in God’s waiting room. I’m so blessed.

NONNA, EMAIL

S My husband and I met through a wellknown computing dating agency in the nineties.

Back then, a paper questionnaire was sent to people to fill in as to what their interests were.

Their intention was to match women with like-minded men. I received a list of males with their addresses and phone numbers.

I met a man and we’ve now been married for years and have three married daughters and five grandchildren. One of our daughters also met their spouse through a dating agency.

There are many lonely people out there who would benefit from dating agencies, young and old singles alike. LEAH, EMAIL

S I’m a widow and recently met a man quite a bit younger than me. We spoke about the same things and laughed about the same things. Unfortunately, he already had a long-time partner.

We met and spoke, and I felt happiness I hadn’t experienced for a long time.

Eventually I decided to end it, as it wasn’t honest and fair. I’m very heartbroken and sad.

To all those lonely people out there, you aren’t the only ones who are faced with a day without someone to care for and who, in turn, cares for you.
