AND WHAT OF HARRY AND MEGHAN?

-

There have been growing calls for the couple to distance themselves from Endgame. Omid says he didn’t speak to the couple for the book and the journalist – who wrote the 2020 bestseller Finding Freedom about the Sussexes – has insisted “I’m not Meghan’s pal”.

But he did speak to people close to them, he says, to tell what he claims is the truth about the House of Windsor.

For Harry and Meghan the resurfacing of the skin-colour issue is likely to be the last thing they wanted.

They haven’t spoken about it publicly since the Oprah interview – it didn’t come up in Spare or in the couple’s explosive Netflix series and there was tacit agreement it wouldn’t be addressed openly again.

After the Oprah tell-all, Charles and Meghan reportedly exchanged letters about the subject where the king expressed his sadness about his daughter-in-law’s feelings.

“He took great pains to explain there would have been no ill will or casual prejudice intended on behalf of those involved,” a source says.

In an interview earlier this year Harry said his family wasn’t racist “having lived within that family”. But he did say there might be “unconscious bias and the two things are different”.

Unconscious bias is referenced in cases where people are unaware of prejudices or beliefs they hold about a group of people that affect behaviour and decisions.

“A comment about a baby’s skin colour might not be perceived as racist by the person who says it,” a source says.

“It could simply be regarded as a casual observation – but to others it could be taken as offensive.”
