5 THINGS ABOUT REBEL MOON
1 It’s an intergalactic space opera set in a galaxy ruled by the tyrannical Regent Balisarius (Fra Fee) and his henchman Admiral Noble (Ed Skrein). A peaceful farming outpost on a moon called Veldt is threatened by Balisarius’ forces after it’s discovered that they’ve unwittingly sold their crops to the Bloodaxes (Cleopatra Coleman and Ray Fisher), the leaders of a group of insurgents hunted by the Motherworld.
The farmers hire a woman, Kora (Sofia Boutella), with a mysterious past to recruit warriors from neighbouring worlds to join their resistance.
2 The cast includes Michiel Huisman as Gunnar, a gentle farmer who accompanies Kora on her resistance recruiting drive. Their guns for hire include Kai (Charlie Hunnam), General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), Nemesis (Doona Bae), Tarak (Staz Nair), Milius (E Duffy) and Jimmy (voiced by Anthony Hopkins), an ancient robot who once protected royalty.
3 The second film, titled The Scargiver, streams in April and will be a war movie about the clash between the evil Imperium and the handful of warriors gathered to defend Veldt.
4 Zack Snyder enjoys a director’s cut of his movies, and the Rebel Moon flicks will be no different.
“The first version of Rebel Moon to hit screens will be a fantasy adventure that anyone can enjoy and watch. The later – and longer – cut will be strictly for adults. I think for fans of mine and people who are ready to take a deeper, harder dive, that’ll be fun for them,” said the director. “It’s very hard, very, like sexy, violent, crazy, everything’s all at 11.”
