2 MINUTES WITH MAJOZI
One of SA’s best-loved musos dropped his latest album, A Great Exchange, at the end of 2023, his first new offering in about five years.
We caught up with the Falling hitmaker.
What are you most looking forward to in 2024? Promoting the new album and sharing songs well into the year.
Why did you name it
A Great Exchange?
I chose the name because this was the most people I’ve worked with on a project, creatively. I worked with an amazing bunch of writers and producers and other singers, including Will Linley, Hunter Kennedy, Mthandazo Gatya and Mikhaela Faye.
There’s something special about creating with others; there’s an openness that happens, an exchange of ideas and emotions that are powerful and hard to describe.
What was your inspiration?
I wanted to be as honest as
I could be in my writing and approach each session with a blank page and allow the space for the music to write itself, with me just being a passenger along the way. What came out is up for listeners’ own interpretation, but for me I found that a lot of them were conversations with God and vice versa.
Who do you most want to collaborate with? Locally, I’d say Manana. I really love his songwriting and voice. Internationally,
Kings of Leon. That would be the ultimate.
Will you be touring soon?
I’m privileged to spend most of my time touring our beautiful country, and that’ll continue in 2024. I hope to tour internationally too, but maybe in 2025.
What is your message to your fans?
You are enough.
