HOW DO I CHOOSE BETWEEN MY HOLIDAY FLING AND MY STEADY GIRLFRIEND?

Q I had a lovely holiday with my parents after a hard 2023 at university. I’m now in my final year of medicine and looking forward to completing my studies. During the holiday, I met a 17-year-old girl who has started Grade 12. We had a holiday romance, although I have a steady girlfriend who went on vacation with her folks.

I’m now finding it difficult to choose between the two women as the younger one is somewhat immature still, although very beautiful and fun to be with while my girlfriend and I both study medicine and are both in our final year.

My girlfriend is more serious and driven towards qualifying one day as a surgeon and she is dedicated. The result is that we both don’t get much time during the year for fun.

I think that’s why my time with the younger girl was wonderful as there were no studies or difficult work getting in the way. How do I decide?

A I’m sure that you enjoyed the time with the younger girl as it reminded you of a time when you had fewer responsibilities, less studies and more fun. Your more mature girlfriend is associated with studies and has lots of work. She is however more mature and more driven by her career now.

Should you choose the younger girl you may find you have little in common and you don’t share the same interests. She also may not understand the fact that being a final-year medical student will leave you with little time to see her. You live in different worlds while your present girlfriend shares your world with you.

The best solution would be to stay friends with the schoolgirl and contact her now and then but to keep your present girlfriend. However, in between your studies you and your girlfriend should make time for fun too. You can’t have all work and no play – it’s important to develop a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
