J LO’S LABOUR OF LOVE

-

Jen has always been a fan of l’amour. She’s also a savvy businesswoman and a self-confessed workaholic. With her latest projects she’s combined these passions.

Jen (54) set herself a challenge with a selffinanced $20-million three-part multimedia project examining her life as a serial romantic. At the end of February she released a documentary called The Greatest Love Story Never Told. It’s a behind-the-scenes peek into the making of Jennifer’s newest film, This Is Me…Now: A Love Story.

The film details the star’s marriages, relationships, and eventual journey back to loving herself. It also looks at how she made her ninth album, This Is Me…Now, which was released on 16 February.

The film is not meant to be an autobiography but it is based on her life. She often puts elements of her life into her projects, Jen says. “I think as an artist, that’s all you really have to draw on, the experience you have and the personal experience and the experience of other people around you that you’ve borne witness to.” She feels this film marks a turning point in her life, personally and professionally. “There are parts of it that are kind of meta, not exactly what happened, but also the feeling of that is what happened. So there were different things about it that were super-honest and true, and then there was things that were kind of more for licence, taking licence and really doing what was best for the entertainment and storytelling of the film.

“That mix of it, being personal but also being able to be fantastical, surreal, magical is what I think makes it really kind of moving, entertaining, and at the same time, super-real.”
