BOTH PARENTS TRAVELLING WITH A CHILD

ONE PARENT TRAVELLING WITH A CHILD Flight Centre South Africa managing director Andrew Stark outlines what you’ll need to travel with a child in or out of South Africa, according to the new rules*.

Certified copy of the child’s unabridged birth certificat­e. This applies to single parents/guardians as well as a mom or dad travelling without the other parent. Certified copy of the child’s unabridged birth certificat­e. An affidavit from the other parent or legal guardian, confirming their consent for the adult to travel with the child.

If a single parent has full parental responsibi­lities and rights or legal guardiansh­ip of the child, he/she must produce the court order to prove this.

If applicable, a death certificat­e of a deceased parent.

ADULT TRAVELLING WITH A CHILD WHO IS NOT HIS/HER BIOLOGICAL CHILD

Certified copy of the child’s unabridged birth certificat­e. An affidavit from the parents or legal guardians of the child, confirming their consent for the adult to travel with the child.

Certified copies of the identity documents or passports of the parents or legal guardians of the child.

Contact details of the parents or legal guardians of the child.

AN UNACCOMPAN­IED MINOR

*In addition to the above, children still need a valid passport and relevant visas to travel.

A certified letter of affidavit from both the child’s parents (unless one parent has full custody) or legal guardian(s), giving their consent for the child to travel into or out of South Africa.

If a single parent has full parental responsibi­lities and rights or legal guardiansh­ip of the child and has written the letter/ affidavit giving consent, that parent must also provide a certified copy of the court order as proof.

The contact details of the parents or legal guardian of the child in the country of origin.

A letter from the person who is to receive the child in the destinatio­n country, containing his/her residentia­l address and contact details where the child will be staying.

A copy of the identity document or valid passport and visa or permanent residence permit of the person who is to receive the child in the destinatio­n country.
