Snuggle up with Swaddling

One of the most comforting ways to help your newborn baby ease into the world beyond the womb is swaddling. An age-old technique, swaddling helps babies to feel snug and safe, especially when it’s sleep time. It can seem a little difficult to master at first but, as with everything, practice makes perfect and you’ll be a dab hand at it in no time. Here’s how to do it:

Take a soft baby blanket and lay it out in a diamond shape on a flat surface – your bed or the floor will do. Fold the top corner down to make the blanket into a triangle. Place your baby into the middle of the blanket. Hold your baby’s right arm down and pull one side of the blanket over, tucking it in under his opposite arm and around to behind his back, if necessary.

Hold your baby’s left arm down and pull up the blanket at the bottom, over his left shoulder. If your baby’s blanket is quite long, simply pop the remainder of the blanket behind your baby’s left arm.

Bring the loose corner out and over your baby, pulling the blanket taut, and tuck it in right around his back. Be sure to do this securely, but no too tightly.

Well done! You have a snuggled up baby, ready to snooze.
