limp for about a year but fortunately she hasn’t had much pain after the surgery and no sign of a limp either. A few weeks ago we went for her nine month postsurgery review with her surgeon and he told us Sophie was cured! The angles of her hip are 22 on her good side and 26 on her bad side. This means the angles of her hips are within in the normal limits. Her surgeon will have to keep monitoring her as she grows and her next review is in 2016. Sophie is now three years and six months old. She loves to play outdoors and throw a ball around, reading books and playing with her sister and – we are proud to say – dancing to Frozen’s worldwide toddler favourite, Let It Go. He might be the specialist, but you are the parents and no question is silly. Seek the care of a medical professional who knows and specialises in CHD, and double check his credentials. Don’t be afraid to seek a second opinion, especially if you don’t agree with the care your child is being provided with, and seek the support of other parents who have or are going through CHD with their child. The doctors say that CHD is a painless condition but as a mother I am not so sure about that. CHD gets missed all the time and this just should not be happening. There should be a someone in every maternity ward who is trained to identify CHD in babies, and each baby born should be checked for the condition. YB
