BREAST IS BEST

Thank you YP for all your informative articles, particularly those on breastfeeding, which have helped me with both my pregnancies. Breastfeeding is a real test with your first child. I was only able to breastfeed my firstborn for 72 hours, when I was discouraged by a relative who told me I had “quantity” but not “quality” breastmilk. And unfortunately, I listened. I also had mastitis, which made even trying to breastfeed extremely difficult. It seemed everything was going wrong, because I wasn’t educated enough at the maternity ward on how to breastfeed, nor had I been given any advice. So my firstborn ended up bottle-fed and it broke my heart. When I had my second baby, I was determined to breastfeed. I read every article on breastfeeding I could get my hands on, and then with one issue came The Better Breastfeeding Guide. When my baby was born, I asked every midwife and nurse if I was breastfeeding properly. When I was discharged I went straight to The Better Breastfeeding Guide and read it over and over again! I encourage all moms to try breastfeeding, and not to be discouraged by anyone, especially friends and relatives who aren’t medical professionals. Women are amazing! Storm Potgieter, Emalahleni
