GET THE RIGHT SUPPORT

-

Feeling emotionally supported through your birth has a profound effect on how you experience it. Karin Steyn says, “Women who feel scared and unsupported are at risk of becoming traumatised by the uncertain and intense experiences around childbirth. Women who feel loved and acknowledged, and are respected for their rights and wishes, are motivated to carry on even when they fear they can’t, because of the strength of the support they receive.” Sally Baker adds, “Studies and my own experience have shown that appropriate, respectful support during childbirth and afterwards helps women cope better, recuperate quicker, feel better as mothers and feel fewer negative feelings towards their infants.”
