Take municipality to task

-

Your front page article ‘Cattle crash lands man in ICU’ in Thursday’s paper, has reference.

With two broken legs, broken wrists and lost teeth, motorcyclist Arnold van Eck will no doubt spend considerable time in hospital, miss work and more importantly, have huge medical bills to pay.

Who will take responsibility for this?

The cow’s owner who allowed his cattle to be on the suburb’s roads unattended should, of course, own up. But will he? Of course not.

Then the municipality’s bylaws should address the ongoing problem of unattended cows roaming freely in residential areas and posing danger to motorists.

This issue has been ongoing for several years now, but nothing is being done and the municipality obviously has no interest in applying their by-laws for the safety of its ratepayers.

Midlands Pound Master Bruce Mattison was quoted as saying Richards Bay is one of the worst areas relating to by-law enforcement of roaming cattle.

Nothing new here, we all know that,

So, in my opinion,

Van Eck - and any future victims - should get a hot - shot lawyer on the case and sue the pants off the municipality and the owner.

He certainly has a case.

And everybody should keep on doing so until the municipality wakes up and does what must be done.
