Councillor gunned down at robots
KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) has roundly condemned the deadly shooting of an IFP councillor in Ulundi on Friday.
Sbuyiselo Dlamini (35), IFP Youth Brigade Zululand District Chairperson served on the Exco of the Zululand
District Municipality where he chaired the Planning Department portfolio.
The incident occurred on the R66 King Dinuzulu Highway, where Cllr Dlamini was shot at a robot intersection by unknown assailants. He was declared dead at the scene.
Sbuyiselo is survived by his fiancée Nombuso Sikhakhane, his mother MaGabela Dlamini, his son Khethelo, three brothers and a sister.
‘His untimely death has robbed us of a promising and budding leader who had a lot to offer through his leadership, insight and intellect,’ the IFP said in a media release.
‘In the course of debate Comrade Sbuyiselo, with sober thought of mind, always keenly concerned himself with matters of principle and was always seeking solutions and building bridges of comradeship.’
‘This brutal attack has once again highlighted the ongoing political violence in KZN which is threatening to take the province back to the 1980s and the 1990s,’ said KZN MEC for Cogta Nomusa DubeNcube.
The ANC in KZN has also denounced the spate of violent attacks on community leaders.
On Monday, Sifiso Cele, Oshabeni Branch Treasurer in the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality on the Lower South Coast Region was murdered in front of his family.
ANC leader Msawenkosi Mchunu of the Moses Mabhida Region was shot and killed outside his home in KwaPata by two unknown males who allegedly stormed his home and opened fire on Friday.
