Stop reckless driving in poor weather

-

There is one thing I don’t understand about Zululand drivers. I suppose it is a nationwide phenomenon, but I want to focus on the local situation. What is it about Zululand motorists that they don’t understand that one needs to slow down and drive extra cautiously in poor weather conditions? Surely even those with limited intellectual capacity should realise that during heavy rains such as what we experienced last week, extremely slippery road surfaces, loss of control as a result of aquaplaning - and that is a real threat on our roads - and poor visibility pose serious dangers. But no, motorists still hurtle along the highways at breakneck speeds when quick braking is severely compromised, and recklessly try to overtake long lines of traffic while visibility is almost non-existent. That is why so many unnecessary accidents occur. The way local drivers carry on in perfectly good weather is shocking enough, but the way they behave during heavy downpours is nothing but suicidal. I don’t mind such dimwits writing themselves off, but usually they are the cause of death or serious injury to innocent motorists. And while I’m on the subject, the traffic authorities really should do something now to punish the hundreds of drivers who jump red traffic lights on a daily basis. There is a total attitude of lawlessness on our roads.
