Dudu Myeni in the dock
Another day of reckoning arrives for embattled local businesswoman
ONCE a high-flyer as SAA board chairperson, local businesswoman Dudu Myeni found herself in the Richards Bay District Court on Friday, as one of two fraud and corruption co-accused.
Facing charges linked to the Bosasa ‘state capture’ investigations, Myeni was accompanied in court by Sondolo IT director, Trevor Mathenjwa.
“During the tenure of Myeni as chairperson of SAA, she had a legal duty to disclose her interests in terms of the SAA Conflict of Interest Policy, which we allege she failed to do,” Sindisiwe Seboka,
Investigating Directorate spokesperson said in a written statement.
“Myeni thus stands accused of corruption for receiving gratification from Bosasa subsidiary Sondolo IT, offered by Trevor Mathenjwa, the company's former director.
“Myeni is accused of having received security upgrades for her Richards Bay [Meerensee] premises during May 2014 to March 2015, to the value of R200k.
“She is further accused of benefiting from hotel accommodation and travel expenses for her and persons close to her, from BOSASA, facilitated by Blake Travels, between May 2014 and March 2015 for over R107k.”
Myeni appeared calm in court but at one stage did ask permission to be seated.
The pair were not asked to plead and were granted conditional bail of R10 000 each.
However, in their bail applications, the pair had indicated that they would plead not guilty to the charges.
Both surrendered their passports and were cautioned not to move from their current addresses without permission.
Mathenjwa was also warned to have no contact with any witnesses.
The matter returns to court on 17 November for disclosure of the case docket.
It is likely that the case will be moved to Gauteng due to the location of most of the witnesses.
