Cheaper turbo Magnite launched

- Val van der Walt

NISSAN South Africa has expanded its popular Magnite line-up with a new Visia Turbo model selling for R277 900.

Previously, the entry-level Visia trim was available only with a naturally-aspirated engine, whereas the turbo-charged motor was reserved for the mid-range Acenta and top-end Acenta Plus specifications.

Standard equipment in Visia models comprises 16-inch steel wheels, central locking, climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, a six-speaker bluetooth sound system, rear parking sensors, a tyrepressure monitoring system, ABS and two airbags.

The Visia Turbo, meanwhile, gets

ISOFIX child seat anchors and the Vehicle Dynamic Control system which assists the driver in retaining grip in slippery conditions.

With its new 1.0 litre, turbo-petrol underpinnings, the Magnite Visia Turbo produces 74kW and 160Nm – up from the non-turbo Visia's 53kW and 96Nm – and drives the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.

As for benefits of running a turbo engine, the Visia Turbo sports a fuel economy figure of 5.2 litres/100km and an acceleration time of 11.7 seconds with an improved top speed of 173km/h.

In comparison, Magnite Visias without a turbo engine use 5.9 litres/100km, have a 0-100km/h time of 16 seconds, and a top speed of 150km/h.
