At Art in the Shade
FROM humble beginnings, Mtunzini’s Art in the Shade has grown to become one of the most-loved events on the region’s entertainment calendar.
Now in its seventh year, this annual Mtunzini Rotary fundraiser is set to take place this weekend, from midday on Friday to midday on Sunday.
The art and crafts will be as exciting this year as in previous years, but the festival has expanded to include art workshops.
So, instead of just looking at art and shopping, visitors can now participate.
Creative workshops
Well-known potter Lindsay Phillips will be leading three pottery workshops throughout the festival.
These are tailor-made for non-professionals, so everyone can walk away with having made their own lovely pottery creations.
To book a place, call Lindsay on
071 7657658.
Shelly Mattison is offering a once-off Lino Cut print workshop on Saturday, which should be a joy to join. To book, call her on
083 7759317.
Throughout the festival, there will be Sip and Paint workshops that anyone can join at any time.
While the adults are busy browsing, painting, and having fun, there is ample entertainment for children. Crazy Carlo - the popular magician will be giving shows throughout the festival.
Activities galore
On top of all that art activity, there will be exquisite food stalls and the best gin and rum cocktails, home-crafted in the Mtunzini area. And what is a festival without a beer tent?! For patrons with an interest in cars, BMW will be exhibiting some of their new models.
A brand-new feature this year is a Gin & Jazz concert on Friday night where well-known jazz artist Rene Tshiakanyi will perform.
The festival is at Mtunzini Town Hall in
Hely Hutchinson Street, supported by uMlalazi Municipality and uMlalazi Tourism.
Mtunzini Rotary’s Art in the Shade is an unmissable event!
Entrance is R40 and children U12 enter free.
