High five for Khombindlela

- Gugu Myeni

IT is a sublimely proud time for Ngwelezana's Khombindlela High School, which boasts at least five top achievers in its matric class of 2023.

The school celebrates five learners who each obtained eight distinctions, and another two who scored seven A's in subjects ranging from mathematics, life sciences, accounting and physics.

This as the school, which had regressed in 2022 scoring an 85.6% overall pass rate, achieved 91.3% in the 2023 results. The latest pass rate is almost reflective of the 91.8% achieved in 2021.

School principal Nompumelelo Mthiyane was beaming with pride and joy when she received the results, saying it is a testament to the hard work put in by both the pupils and teachers.

“I could hardly sleep before the results were released on Friday, I am over the moon,” said an elated Mthiyane.

“I am truly grateful to the learners for coming to the party because the school would not have been celebrating this achievement without their hard work,” she said.

While the principal is basking in the glory of the school's 2023 performance, she is looking ahead to the current academic year.

"We hope to maintain or even surpass these results with the 2024 matric learners and we will collectively work even harder than before," she said.

"We have already set out programmes for the year and these will be communicated with parents to get the ball rolling as of Monday.

"I believe if we kick off the academic year in the correct gear, we will obtain excellent results as we have done with this cohort.

"Ours is to provide the necessary support and tools at all levels for learners to achieve their best," said Mthiyane.
