- Conelia Harry

AQUADENE Secondary School boasted their highest matric pass rate in over two decades, at 98.6%.

This was in addition to the school's top achiever Repentance Mnguni, who scored five distinctions.

A consistent high flyer over the years, maintaining second position from Grade 10, the matriculant went on to supersede his peers, swooping in to the top spot with A's in isiZulu, life orientation, maths, agricultural sciences and physical science.

The Mzingazi youngster said discipline was key to his success as he set aside all activities for the year, giving his full attention to his academics.

''My results are thanks to our teachers and principal who dedicated all their time to our matric class of 2023, after hours, weekends and holidays.

''Having lost my father in Grade 9, my mother continued to support us as a single parent and I am grateful to my family for standing by me.

''I look forward to studying medicine at UKZN this year," he said.

Meanwhile, elated

principal SG Pakathi said the school's 2023 matric class has done them proud with their exceptional results.

"Our learners followed our theme for 2023 of advancing the culture of excellence, and reaped the rewards.

"These are our highest marks since 2002. Of the 145 learners who sat for the examinations, just two

did not pass.

"Our learners produced 110 bachelor passes, 31 diplomas and four higher certificates.

"We dedicate our results to one of our matric pupils, Olwethu Mncwango, who passed on during the school holidays.

“He would have been enjoying these results as he had also attained a bachelor pass."
