Choose friends wisely, says Amangwe High top achiever

- Mbuso Kunene

THE kinds of friends you choose could make or break your future.

This is according to Amangwe High School 2023 top matric achiever, Ritabile Hlongwane who scored seven distinctions.

Ritabile needed to think only about her books last year, having been spared from all household chores by her supportive mother.

An introvert, Ritabile said most of her spare time was spent looking at her books.

“This made me avert many things that could have negatively affected my studies. When spending time with my friends, we at times find ourselves speaking about our studies,” she said.

She said the association between her and her friends was something in alignment with her goals. She could not thank her teachers enough for their dedication to ensuring the matrics grasped everything to arm them for the final examinations.

Excited single mother to Ritabile, Zanele Mabuza said she was over the moon with what her daughter has achieved. A teacher by profession, Mabuza said her daughter is an easy-going person, full of respect and knows exactly what she wants in life.

“It is very easy to be her parent as she does not give me many challenges.

“She takes care of herself and is very respectful. All I had to do was make sure she got everything she needed,” said Mabuza.

Having attained a 100% pass rate for the 2023 academic year, with 89% bachelor, 10% diploma and 4% higher certificate passes, Amangwe High School principal FN Mbuyazi attributed this achievement to the commitment from the various internal and external stakeholders.

“The vision of our school is to produce successful individuals who would effect change in their community and the entire world; the commitment of our teachers could never go unnoticed as they dedicate their time to educating our learners,” said Mbuyazi.

Moreover, he said the school cleaners, gardeners and chicken staff also positively contributed to the success of the learners.

“We would like to acknowledge the efforts of businesses around Empangeni and the local councillor for their support for our camps, which always begin in the first term of the academic year,” added Mbuyazi.

For the last three years, Amangwe High School has achieved pass rates of 78.3% (2021), 95.2% (2022) and 100% (2023).
