Christian academy top achiever’s role models all wear white coats

SOME heroes wear capes, but for Mtuba Christian Academy's top matric achiever, his wear white coats.

The academic prowess of Smangaliso Mncwango, who achieved six distinctio­ns, has made his parents and school proud.

Inspired by the monumental achievemen­ts of South African medical pioneers, the 19-yearold sets his sights on a future in medicine.

Smangaliso, with unwavering passion for the intricacie­s of the human body, aspires to follow in the footsteps of his heroes, especially lauding figures like Chris Barnard, the South African trailblaze­r behind the first heart transplant.

"I want to save lives," Smangaliso asserts confidentl­y, emphasisin­g his deep-rooted commitment to the medical field.

For him, South Africa stands as fertile ground for medical innovation, and he is eager to contribute to the legacy of novel feats set by those who came before him.

As he prepares to embark on his medical studies, Smangaliso plans to explore various facets of the field before honing in on a speciality.

Reflecting on the challenges faced during his matric year, Smangaliso acknowledg­es the ever-changing class environmen­t as a hurdle.

However, with the unwavering support of his family and school, he triumphed over the difficulti­es, he said.

Offering advice to the current class, Smangaliso emphasises the importance of prioritisa­tion, organisati­on and mental health.

"If you prioritise what is important, are organised and manage your time correctly, you will be able to have the fun you need to have because without it, you will be stressed," he said.

Jubilant tears flowed from Jabulisile Maureen Mncwango, Smangaliso's mother, upon hearing the news of her son's exceptiona­l results.

"I am so excited for him. He is my only child," she expressed emotionall­y.

MCA's high school principal Nontobeko Mkhwanazi proudly announced the institutio­n's 13-year milestone with a 100% pass rate.

Mkhwanazi said the Class of 2023 achieved an impressive 84% securing bachelor's passes and 16% earning diplomas.

Apart from Smangaliso, the school's other top achievers include Mpathwenhl­e Sikhakhane with five distinctio­ns and Andiswa Gumede with four.

In closing, the principal shared a message of gratitude, quoting 1 Corinthian­s 15:57,

"But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
