Perfect seven tops Welabasha High
DEDICATION to her studies is what led to Sibusisiswe Msane graduating at the top of her class with 7 distinctions.
Hailing from the rural KwaMthethwa area in Emawombe, the Welabasha High School 2023 matriculant said, growing up, she never had ambitions to enrol in a 'model C school' for better marks.
She said Welabasha is well known for producing top quality results, with dedicated teachers at its disposal.
“These marks are a reflection of my dedication, tenacity, and the overwhelming assistance from the teachers and support from my parents,” said Sibusisiswe.
She said her study mechanism was to prepare beforehand so when the time for class sessions comes, she already has an understanding of the subject.
“Be prepared and always start early to get ahead. Watch YouTube to better understand that particular subject, seek assistance from the teachers, and don’t forget to pray,” said Sibusisiswe.
With her results, Sibusisiswe is adamant about enrolling for a medical general practitioner degree either at UKZN or UCT. Commenting about the overall school achievement for the matric class of 2023, Welabasha High School principal TM Mayisela said this was a very difficult year for them having to experience mark deductions from subjects like maths and physical sciences.
“Looking at the results from other schools we ‘compete’ with is very disheartening. But I am happy that of 286 learners who sat for the final exam, only eight did not make it,” said Mayisela. Mayisela vowed that as long as he is at the helm, Welabasha will never achieve an overall matric pass rate below 80%.
“This achievement is attributed to the dedicated teachers and parents who are involved in the running of the school. We also do a lot of collaboration with teachers from other schools, who we see are doing well,” he added. Welabasha High
School achieved 95.8% in 2021, 98.4% in 2022, and dropped to 97.2% last year.
Apart from Sibusisiswe, three learners obtained 6 distinctions.
