Solid goals for seasoned swimmer
THIS year promises to be a big one for Froggies swimmer Wendy Cook, who has some high profile races in the pipeline.
Her year kicked off with the Baynesfield Open Water Swim in mid-January where she qualified for the SA Open Water Champs, to be held in Jeffreys Bay in March. On 8 and 9 February, she will compete in the Midmar 8-mile swim for charity, with Cansa her beneficiary of choice.
On Sunday, 11 February, she will compete in the individual Midmar Mile.
She will then go on to the SA Masters Nationals in Johannesburg in March, where she is set to compete in five pool events as well as the 3km open water swim.
In June, she will participate in the Ocean 8 Charity Ocean Swims in Durban to raise funds for various conservation organisations.
In July, she will attempt her first ice swim in the Drakensberg, which is a qualifier for the Ice World Champs 2025, to be held in Italy.
"In November, I will be doing the Robben Island crossing, which is a 7.5km swim in Cape Town. In between all of this, I am sure I
will be enticed into participating in various other challenges, like the Nando's Open Water swim in Mauritius in April.
"Funding is always a challenge, but I believe God will provide for my every need. I have had a passion for the water since I was a baby, and through the sport I
have witnessed many people’s lives change, including my own.
"If I can continue to impact people’s lives through the sport as both a swimmer and a coach, I am fulfilling my purpose and destiny. What a privilege and an honour."
