One-stop shop gives fish and loaves to the needy

POVERTY and hunger are devastating South African communities, but community-minded individuals are making a change.

The Linzwa Foundation NPO introduced a One-Stop Shop that provides meals and support for locals in the Dlangezwa area.

Daily bread donations from BB Bakeries have helped keep the doors open, with further support provided by Dockside Harbour Cruises, Dockside Sailing Academy and Richards Bay Fresh Fish Distribution.

Lindiwe Dube said they are so grateful to these businesses that continue to support the One-Stop Shop.

“Times are tough, and some businesses are also struggling financially. I often ask myself, if things become difficult for us, what about those underprivileged communities?” she said.

“Our aim is not just to feed people; we also want to teach them psychosocial skills so they can be independent. We are proud to say that with the help of Zululand Yacht Club, Litter4Tokens and Brownie Points, over 50 people are getting an income now.”

Having recently donated three buckets of fresh fish to the centre, Dockside Harbour Cruises director Gert le Roux said they appreciate the work the Linzwa Foundation is doing in the community.

“This is the reason we support this foundation whenever we can,” said Le Roux, who has been working with the foundation since 2020.

“We invite all those who can afford to help, to come forward and assist the Linzwa Foundation wherever possible.”
