Local ANC targets 2019 election
WHILE economic transformation and forging unity remains paramount to the ANC in general, the immediate task of the Musa Dladla Region is to ensure that the ANC emerges victorious in the 2019 general election.
That was the sentiment of newly elected chairperson of the ANC in the Musa Dladla Region, Mduduzi Mhlongo.
Addressing the media after the two-day,
7th ANC Regional Conference held at the University of Zululand, Mhlongo expressed confidence in his collective leadership, saying they were equal to the task.
‘When we say we will channel all our energies to winning the 2019 election, we are not turning a blind eye to the challenges confronting our region, such as the high levels of inequality, poverty and unemployment,’ he said.
The top five leadership and the 20 additional members were elected unopposed by the 600 delegates who converged at the Bhekuzulu Hall.
Delegates from the five subregions - uMfolozi, uMhlathuze, uMlalazi, uMthonjaneni and Nkandla - debated policies and implemented resolutions taken at the Nasrec Conference.
The region, the second largest in KZN, is home to former President Jacob Zuma, who could not attend the conference.
ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) Member David Masondo said he was convinced that the leadership elected would be able to deliver to the masses.
‘From a national perspective, we believe that KZN is on course to hold its provincial conference, judging by the mood of the delegates here and in the other three regions who have had their conferences.
‘Yes, we are concerned about the political killings in the province, but our view is that the law enforcement agencies must be given space to do their work.
‘We are doing everything according to the book. We don’t see any threats to the provincial conference and are trying our best to adhere to the rules and policies of our organisation so that we are not told by the courts on how to run this organisation,’ he said.
The elected office bearers are Mduduzi Mhlongo, who took over the reins from Nonhle Mkhulisi, Thembeka Mchunu (Deputy Chairperson), Tholi Gwala (Secretary), Mthoko Dlamini (Deputy Secretary) and Lindo Phungula (Treasurer).
