Nurses celebrated for their role in providing effective patient care
International Nurses’ Day – 12 May 2018
Celebrating our nurses with the theme ‘Nursing Now: A Voice to Lead’, Life Empangeni Private Hospital proudly acknowledges nurses who are often the unsung heroes of the healthcare industry in South Africa.
‘Our theme for International Nurses’ Day this year focuses on empowering and supporting nurses in meeting 21st century health challenges and acknowledges that nurses are at the heart of countries’ efforts to provide health for all,’ says Hospital Manager Barries Barnard
The Life Healthcare Group employs as many as 10,000 nurses nationwide. International Nurses’ Day is an opportunity for the Group to thank nurses for making ordinary care special by being mindful and thoughtful in the care they deliver.
‘We salute our nurses for stepping up and taking the responsibility of being the champions for the delivery of evidencebased practice whilst influencing, moulding and inspiring future generations of nurses,’ added Barnard.
Life Healthcare’s annual Great 100 Nurses initiative, which identifies and acknowledges the company’s top nurses in the group aligns with international nurses day.
Chosen by their peers, these nurses are lauded for epitomising quality and compassion in their daily work. They are recognised as nursing ambassadors for Life Healthcare and the profession at large. Launched in 2012, the Great 100 Nurses celebration was established to honour nurses who make a significant difference to the profession of nursing and in the lives of patients, peers, students and the community.
The award gives nurses who join this prestigious group the opportunity to transform nursing care at the bedside and improve patient outcomes.
Life Empangeni Private Hospital is proud to have a number of its nurses nominated for Great 100 Nurses, with Sr Eileen van Zyl, Clinical Training Specialist, and Sphamandla Mdlalose, Enrolled Nurse, being selected as a 2018 Great 100 Nurse winner at the regional Great 100 Nurses event, held on 10 May 2018.
‘These awards act as a reminder for staff and the public that our nurses work hard and are committed to each and every one of their patients. Through their commitment, they are transforming the nursing world and providing world class care,’ said Barnard.
