Bank furnishes new campus
A PARTNERSHIP to support education and skills development resulted in the Umfolozi Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College’s Alton campus receiving a furniture donation valued at more than R280 000.
Sponsored by ABSA Bank, the official handover ceremony was held at the Alton campus in Ceramic Curve on Wednesday.
ABSA representative Faisal Mkhize said there are 50 TVET colleges in the country and, as they were the primary bankers of 34 of them, their shared growth strategy carried a strong commitment to supporting education and skills development.
‘We are proud to hand over the donation of unused furniture and technology resources available as a result of renovations at our institutions,’ said Mkhize.
The request received was to help equip the Project Management Unit at the Alton campus. Items include office desks, chairs, boardroom tables, filing cabinets and reception couches.
The donation placed the spotlight on how public-private partnerships between government, private companies and civil society organisations can make a difference and was welcomed by college Principal, Mr Sam Zungu.
In addition, the bank will see to the continuation of the Workplace Based Exposure (WBE) Programme, which will host 300 students during the job shadowing period (July holidays) across KZN.
There will be a further R10 000 donation later in the year that will go towards prize money for the top performing graduates, or directly to the college to support the annual academic graduation ceremony.
