- Muzi Zincume

A MEMBER of a crime fighting group, Isikebhe, was killed while attending to a business burglary in the Ndlangubo area on Thursday night.

According to reports Sifiso Mlambo (32) went to investigate a business burglary in progress at Ward 24 and was shot before arriving at the scene.

Speaking on behalf of the Mlambo family, Mandla Dube said they were left severely traumitised by the incident.

‘My nephew had a bright future ahead of him and was a crime fighter of note, that’s why he associated himself with Isikebhe,’ said Dube.

eShowe SAPS spokesperson, Constable Zama Magwaza, said a case of murder and attempted business burglary has been opened.

‘It is alleged that a local spaza shop owner alerted Isikebhe and the police about the burglary in progress.

‘Police attended to the crime scene, but when they arrived the suspects had already left empty handed.

‘On Friday morning Mlambo’s body was found with a gun and his cellphone next to it.

According to his family Mlambo did not own a firearm.

‘At this stage it is unclear whether he was killed by the same suspects responsible for the attempted burglary.

‘The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if it had been used in any crime. At this stage no arrest has been made,’ said Magwaza.
