Bumper bonsai workshop in Bay

- Dave Savides

THE Zululand Bonsai Society has acquired the expertise of yet another national bonsai expert for a workshop on 9 June at the NSRI base in Richards Bay.

Bonsai artist, ceramicist and instructor Antony Smith, who studied Landscape Technology at the Tshwane University of Technology, has given demonstrations all over South Africa and partnered with the Japanese Embassy in their cultural Expo in 2017.

He operates Willow Bonsai Academy and is affiliated to the South African Bonsai Association and the African Bonsai Association.

Antony will concentrate on the harmony, balance and composition of styling, going back to basics on most of the guidelines and how to apply them to different species.

He will be using different learning tools to visually show the progression and future planning of the trees brought on the day.

The workshop runs from 8.30am to 4.30pm and cost is R150 for members and R190 for non-members, which includes tea and a light lunch.

Bonsai pots, tools, soil and trees will be on sale.

Attendees must bring two trees and tools for the evaluation session.

For catering purposes, booking is essential by

6 June.
