A feast fit for a king
HISTORY repeated itself on Saturday when Dumisani Ngobese, who moved South Africans when he broke down in tears at his graduation ceremony, shed more tears of joy at his celebration party in Empangeni.
Zululanders rolled out the red carpet and threw a banquet fit for a king for the Buchanana graduate and his family and friends at La Fusion Chefs.
He was brought to tears as he reflected on the long and difficult journey that culminated in his glorious graduation day.
Dumisani's story of being raised by his grandmother in rural Zululand touched the hearts of many South Africans as his emotional graduation photo went viral on social media.
‘We felt his heart when he sobbed on the podium. When we heard the story that he couldn’t even afford the suit he wanted, we made it our duty to give him a celebration he would never forget.
‘We really appreciate all those who came on board and contributed to his big day, including Ngamla Guest House, Amathole Funerals, City of uMhlathuze, Makadebona Security, ARS Plant Hire, and others,’ said organiser, chef Richard Ndlazi.
Festivities began on Friday and included accommodation in a luxury suite for himself and his family.
Celebrations continued on Saturday with a police escort to the venue where he dined with his family and guests while enjoying music from various artists such as Thabie Ngethe, Shakes Ngema, Method Sax, Gift Marovatsanga, DJ Lady C and others.
‘I feel so blessed to have such a celebration, and for everyone to come together and do something for me. I feel special and overwhelmed.
‘I’m grateful to everyone, including my family, but especially my grandmother,’ said Dumisani.
