Reggae muso on a mission to succeed

- Mbuso Kunene

Hailing from the rural area of KwaSokhulu under the uMfolozi local municipality, Nhlanhla ‘King Bulawayo’ Khumalo aims for the sky in his reggae music career.

The 38-year-old began to fall in love with the arts back in the year 1990 as he was a passionate dancer, but thereafter polished and nurtured his first love, which is singing.

Having recently released two albums under his name titled, Umsindo and Climbing the Mountain, King Bulawayo is hopeful his songs will make it into the big airwaves and reach the top charts in the country.

According to King Bulawayo, is busy promoting the two albums and is grateful for the support he is getting from the local community radio stations.

‘Being far away from recording facilities has dampened my potential in the industry, however, I am determined to make it. I have to finance myself whenever I need to go and record the music which is a very expensive process for an artist like myself,’ said King Bulawayo.

His affection for the reggae genre is inspired by the late Lucky Dube because of his humanity and dignity.

King Bulawayo believes that arts and music in particular have the power to change society and keep young people away from drug abuse and criminal activities.

In everything he does, King Bulawayo gets inspiration from his family, and he enjoys being on stage performing to a crowd that reciprocates his energy.

‘The adoration of reggae music motivates me and my supporters keep pushing and that makes me fall in love all over again when I am performing,’ said King Bulawayo.
