IT was a nail-biting finish to the Companies' Social Soccer Tournament, which saw Transnet Marine successfully defend their title after taking on Izingwenya Engineers in the final.

‘What was promised, was delivered’, said Sanele Mtshali following another successful round of the tournament, which was held at the Empangeni Rugby Club on 4 June.

Eight companies entered their soccer teams to play in a series of 12 pool games, two semi-finals and a final.

Participants were Ritchie Ford Auto, Ritchie Ford Richards Bay, SMG BMW, Izingwenya Engineers, Sanlam Sjimbo, Richem Secondary, Siyandiswa Projects, and Transnet Marine.

Defending champions Transnet Marine took on Izingwenya Engineers in a nail-biting final which ended 2-1 in favour of Transnet Marine to retain the title.

An audience of more than 300 people enjoyed the exciting sports day, which included fun activities, delicious menus, cold beverages and an opportunity to network with companies' stakeholders.

'People must brace themselves for the fifth round which will be held later this year.

A special tribute goes to Empangeni Rugby Club for allowing us to use their amazing facilities, as well as our assistants, the spectators, referees, medics and sponsors (Ritchie Auto, Gesh Lounge, Select Sports Empangeni and Izingwenya Engineers).

'They all assisted greatly towards ensuring this initiative becomes more than a success,’ said Sanele, the event organiser.
