SHE is young, beautiful and ready to empower others.

Newly-crowned Miss King Cetshwayo Lumka Mahlaba (24), is not just a beauty queen, but a self-motivated woman with a passion for young people.

Within a week of being crowned at the prestigious Miss King Cetshwayo pageant at Umfolozi Resort last Friday, the young queen from eNseleni is already working with her team on various programmes.

According to Lumka, they aim to create platforms to positively impact the youth, and create selfawareness programmes which will benefit them.

‘The youth is important, not just to me but also to our leaders. The aim is to create projects that will positively impact them.

‘We must move away from those things that have been done to death, and create platforms for our youth to excel and be empowered,’ said Lumka.

About Lumka

She was born in eNseleni and attended various schools across the province.

She holds a BA in Industrial Sociology and BA Honours in Anthropology.

Not only is she an educated model, but also an HR intern at the Department of Education in the Zululand District.

Lumka started modelling years ago, but was very conscious about her body until she met modelling instructor Zinhle Khumalo.

From there, she became part of the industry and started entering pageants.

‘I entered Miss uMfolozi TVET College and didn’t make it, but it didn’t discourage me,' she said.

She continued to try her luck as Miss Mzingazi, and then took second place at Miss Urban SA 2021.

She is a finalist for the prestigious Miss National SA, and on a mission to host the Miss Zululand High School pageant this year.

‘Young high school models also need a platform, and that’s what I aim on doing,’ she said.

The young model plans to enter Miss South Africa in a year or two.
